Who works with us?

The House of Dutch cooperates with all providers of “Dutch as a foreign language”. For Gent, they are:

- Centrum voor Basiseducatie Leerpunt (CBE) / Basic Education Centre Leerpunt (BEC)
The Basic Education Centre has non-native speakers with a low learning proficiency, illiterate people and differently literate people (who don’t know the Latin alphabet), ages 18 and up.

- Centrum voor volwassenenonderwijs (CVO) / Centre for Adult Education (CAE)
Students in a CAE have a normal learning proficiency. There are slow, regular and intensive courses within each CAE. Gent has 2 CAE:
CVO/CAE de Bargie: City education
PCVO/PCAE het Perspectief: provincial education

- Universitair Centrum voor Talenonderwijs (UCT) / University Centre for Language Education (UCLE)
People in the UCLE have a very high learning proficiency. Every student must at least have a secondary education degree and know the basics of a Western European language (English, French, German,…). These courses can serve as proper preparation for anyone wishing to start higher education classes in Dutch.

- VDAB / Flemish Employment Centre
Anyone looking for work who has a basic knowledge of Dutch, can turn to the VDAB for Dutch classes combined with training for a profession. You are required to be registered with the VDAB as a job seeker.

The House of Dutch also works with the Newcomers’ Reception Desk. This Reception Desk is in charge of the policy on integration. More information can be found here.
