screening and testing
Anyone wishing to study Dutch will have to come to the House of Dutch for an screening conversation. No appointment required during opening hours. During this conversation, we will ask some questions regarding schooling background and language proficiency among other things.
We generally also ask to take a ‘covaar-test’: this tests your cognitive (learning) skills. This will help us to determine whether it is best for the student to take classes at a slow or fast pace.
If someone already has some prior knowledge of Dutch, he or she can take a level test. This may allow the student to start at a higher level.
If we are unsure whether someone is sufficiently familiar with the Latin alphabet, this may also be tested.
Based on the conversation and the test results, we will give the student orientation advice. This advice will refer the student to a specific type of course and is binding. The advice still allows the student to choose the time of the course (morning, afternoon or evening) and if applicable, the location of the course.
Everyone is welcome from age 16 onwards. You should bring your identity card, passport or a document of residence along.
